From May 1st, the revamped EU ADSL service will offer free calls to more countries than ever, both in Europe and beyond!

Posted on April 9, 2009

This Spring we have been in busy bee mode at Direct Telecom, as we get ready to launch our revamped and expanded EU ADSL package that will offer you free VOIP calls to an even wider range of countries.

As many of you already know, the current EU ADSL service includes:

* Free local/national calls to Spain
* 300 minutes a month of free calls to the UK and several other European countries
* ADSL with up to 3mb/300kbps download/upload speed
* Full technical support in English.

Now this is the good news: from the 1st May 2009, we are adding three new optional VOIP modules that give you 300 minutes a month worth of free calls to landlines in Asia (China, Hong Kong, Singapore & Thailand), Australia & New Zealand, and USA & Canada respectively. What’s more, we are giving the EU module a new lease of life, adding more free call countries to make a total of 16 countries in Europe alone. The new list of European countries will be Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and U.K.

This means that from May onwards, you can customise your EU ADSL package by choosing any of these new VOIP call modules as your default module, instead of the EU module. Alternatively, you can add one or more extra VOIP modules to your current plan for just 5€ per module per month, which gives you an extra 300 minutes of talk time for each module you add.

With Direct Telecom’s EU ADSL service, you are not just cutting your ADSL and telephone costs - you enjoy many other advantages too!

First of all, you get peace of mind that you are using a reliable ADSL and telephone service, fully backed by a friendly English-speaking technical support team. Then there’s the ability to make free or very low-cost VOIP calls from your normal phone, even when your computer is off. And did you know that with this technology, you can even make up to three simultaneous phone calls over the same line!

You just can’t go wrong with Direct Telecom! So get ready to enjoy the new, expanded EU ADSL service. The first of May is just round the corner!

How to enjoy massive savings when you call abroad from your Spanish mobile

Posted on March 6, 2009

Did you know that you can make overseas calls from your mobile for just a few cents more than a local call, and in many cases for actually less than dialing a local number? That’s right! Read on.

With the current economic crisis and everyone in full cost-cutting mode, we thought we should remind you of the highly popular GlobalFone service that allows you to call the UK, Europe and anywhere in the world from your mobile for as little as 3.3 cents per minute plus your normal local call charge.

The way it works is you call the GlobalFone exchange number (which is a standard landline) and then simply dial in the international number that you want to call at our ultra-low rates, saving up to 85% on your overseas calls!

Now you’ve probably spotted this already, but in case you haven’t, here’s a trick to save even more money depending on your current mobile operator: simply assign the GlobalFone number as a ‘preferred’ or ‘friend’ number with your operator so you only pay a couple of cents a minute to call our exchange, or take advantage of the pay for 1 minute, talk 60 plans out there. Either way, you’ll actually be calling overseas from your mobile for less than a standard local call! What’s more, if you need to make more than one overseas call, you can save on your local operator’s connection fees by not hanging up, and instead just dialing ## and the new number.

It’s easy to see why the GlobalFone service is an enormous success!

Best of all, you do not need to change your mobile operator or your mobile number to use GlobalFone. And on the other hand, you can still use this service should you ever decide to switch operators. An added advantage for people calling the UK is that you can use GlobalFone to call 0844 and 0875 special rate Non-Geographic Numbers (routinely used by banks, insurance firms and other companies) that you can’t normally call from your Spanish mobile.

Whether you need to be constantly in touch with friends, family or business contacts abroad, or if you are one of the increasing number of people who simply don’t have a landline, GlobalFone will drastically cut your overseas call costs. Can you afford to pass up on these massive savings?

Visit www.globalfone.es to instantly activate your GlobalFone account and top up your credit so you can start making low-cost overseas calls right away. If you have any questions, just call GlobalFone customer service on 902 544 144, and we’ll be happy to help you out and get you going.

What happened to calling ‘’home’’?

Posted on February 11, 2009

What happened to calling ‘’home’’?

Think about it, when was the last time you said ‘’I am just going to call John’s house’’? A long time ago for sure, why? Because we always call the person now, we call their personal mobile. We know it is more expensive to call a mobile so why do it? The answer is speed and convenience. In a world where seconds count, especially in a business setting, it is far easier to call someone’s mobile and get straight through to the person in question. By calling their landline we risk missing them all together and then having to call their mobile phone anyway. We also call far more from our mobiles, again for convenience and speed meaning a far more productive day. It has made us available 24/7 and thus a more useful work force. Many people owe their lives to the humble mobile phone having been able to call directly from the scene of an accident. Sadly, some of these accidents are caused by people foolishly using mobiles whilst behind the wheel of the car. Having said that, the benefits far outweigh the pitfalls. In fact, the world would not be as we know it today without the mobile phone.

Mobiles were once huge items that weighed literally kilos, then came the ‘’mobile revolution’’ and the best mobiles were deemed as the smallest ones on the market. This again has changed and we now look for the most services and accessories included with the product, cameras, MP3, i-phones and the rest. What people seldom do is look at the rates they will be charged by the supplier as they are too dazzled by the shiny new toy in their hands. Little do they realize that a simple call to a UK landline could cost them up to 0.50€/min with some providers and this is not including tax or the heavy international call connection fee.

Thankfully, there are alternatives to paying such costly fees. At one time the only option was the calling card which, when no other alternatives were available, was fine. The problem is that many calling cards bill in per minute and some even per two minute blocks and there is no where to complain to should the caller experience poor line quality. Now there is a system on the market that works on a similar pre-paid principal but offers per second billing and call quality assurance.

This system is globalfone.es (www.globalfone.es) The user can easily put credit on their secure online account and use it straight away, calling the UK for just 3.3 cents per minute, all that needs to be added are the indirect mobile carrier charges but even so savings are over 70%! This product is being marketed by one of Spain’s leading low cost calls providers, Direct Telecom who for many years have offered low cost calling and ADSL services at Spain’s most competitive prices. As a special offer they are offering a 1 hour free trail of the service to new customers, to make the most of this simply call 902 107 111 and have your account set up today!

Have you been ”Slammed”?

Posted on February 3, 2009

Right now you are probably asking ‘’what on earth is slamming?’’, sounds unpleasant doesn’t it? Well, you are not wrong.

‘’Slamming’’ is the term used both in the UK and here in Spain to describe an un-authorized takeover of a clients ADSL/internet connection or phone line by another company. In some cases this is an intentional action, usually involving false or misleading sales tactics. In other cases it is an administrative error, unfortunately mistakes do happen. In any event, it is the client who ends up with a service they did not order, in some cases paying higher fees for a poorer service.

The affected party usually discovers that the switch has been made in one of the following ways:

The Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce (Ministerio de Industria, Turismo y Comercio, Gobierno de España) offers the following advice to avoid being a victim of slamming:

It may all seem like common sense when read on here but regrettably new cases appear each passing day. Since the liberation of the telecommunications market there has been a plethora of new companies on the market offering a variety of services. Sadly some of these companies resort to less than reputable tactics to gain new clients.

Direct Telecom believes in an honest and transparent approach to business. Rates are clear and concise, monthly statements are available by post, Email and also online 24/7 when by using unique client username and passwords offered to each client. Should you have any doubts about the legitimacy of a call, please do not hesitate to contact our multilingual customer service staff who will be more than happy to attend to you.

How to use your Internet connection to save money

Posted on December 3, 2008

Times are tough, and the number one thing on everyone’s minds right now is how to save money and cope with the economic downturn. And as you may already know, there’s nothing like the Internet when it comes to finding the best deal, or even getting things for free. So here are a few tips on how to use your Internet connection to make the most of your money.

Keep in touch with friends and loved without spending a cent

Once upon a time it was just e-mail. Today there are so many ways you can use the Internet to keep in touch with far-off family and friends for free. From applications like MSN Live Messenger that allow you to chat, to social networking sites such as FaceBook, where you can keep track of what all your friends are up to and share photos, video and more, you’re simply spoilt for choice!

Buy online, or simply shop around for the best deal

There’s nothing like a good bargain to keep the economic woes in check. And whether you’re shopping online, or just comparing prices across shops, the Internet brings thousands of different products and sellers to your very fingertips, so that you can find the best deals on anything you need.
When you buy online, you save even more because online shops do not have as many overheads (rent, salaries etc.) as your regular high street establishment, and the savings are typically passed on to you, the consumer.

Snap up the hottest low-cost travel offers

Thanks to the Internet, you might be able to afford that much-needed holiday after all! The low-cost plane ticket websites are buzzing with all sorts of special offers and deals that will make your high street travel agent blush. And you can even search for the best hotel prices and complete your booking from the comfort of your computer.

Use online banking and save on those pesky commissions

The banks too are feeling the pinch, and one way that they will try to compensate and make more money is by increasing their transaction commissions. However, many banks charge lower, or even zero, commission on transactions done through online banking, so that’s another way to save some money with your Internet connection (not to mention time in the queue).

Ditch your newspaper and read the news for free online

Have you ever thought that buying a daily newspaper turns out more expensive than your Direct Telecom ADSL subscription? On the Internet, you can find more news than you could ever read, from a wide variety of sources, in any language you like, for absolutely free. And the best thing is that online news sites are constantly updated as events unfold. So grab your cup of tea, coffee or whatever and head over to your computer for the latest news and save!

There was a time when having an Internet connection was somewhat of a luxury – something for geeks and techies to while away the time with. Not anymore. Today the Internet has become as much of a necessity as the telephone, and a great way to save money too!

Latest Mobile deals for Businesses with more than 10 lines!

IS YOUR BUSINESS FEELING THE PINCH FROM THE RECESSION?  MAKE SURE YOUR MOBILE RUNNING COSTS DON’T TAKE YOU UNDER…

In the current climate it is becoming increasingly important for businesses to cut costs wherever possible.  With this in mind BT Mobile has launched a new service for business users “BT 10 Empresas”.

The new service works on the same principle as the existing BT 10 service.  Unlike certain other operators who woo you with a low tariff, only to find that when you read the small print you will only get this “special” rate if you are calling at a specific time of the day within your providers own network, the BT 10 service removes the risk of a call costing you a fortune if you are dialling a different network or at peak time with flat rate across the board national calls 24/7.

So what are the advantages of BT 10 Empresas over the standard service?

In addition to these great rates the BT10 Empresas service offers users a 10% discount on all landline and mobile international calls, giving a competitive 0.405 € per minute to most of Europe.

The service also works particularly well with Globalfone, one of Direct Telecom’s other services, designed to give low cost international calls from your mobile.  The access number for this service is a normal national number and will therefore cost 0.09 € per minute 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Add this to the incredible rate of 0.033 € per minute to call a UK landline and your total cost per minute for an international call to a UK mobile will be just 0.123 € per minute.  The connection fee is also greatly reduced at 0.09 € per call as the connection is to a national number rather than an international one.

Another great feature of the service is the ability to set up a virtual private network, a free service allowing you to choose the internal telephone number of each line within the group.

In order to keep a certain level of control over the consumption, certain call restrictions can be placed on one or several of the individual lines within the group allowing you to choose the call services available to each member of staff.

All in all, the new BT 10 Empresas service has been carefully designed, with particular consideration to the actual needs of real businesses, with the ultimate goal of saving them money.

If you’ve been fortunate enough to receive your Telefónica bill this month, you may have noticed a surreptitiously inserted page outlining their new rates for 2009, and it’s pretty grim reading.
