Telefonica’s fixed line monopoly in Spain finally shattered

Exciting news on the horizon for current and future Direct Telecom clients!

Years of perseverance have now paid off and we will very soon be in a position to offer you the possibility to completely migrate your Spanish fixed telephone line and related services to Direct Telecom. This means that you will finally have a choice and a say about which telecommunications company you want to choose something long overdue, as anyone living in Spain will surely agree.

All you will have to do is authorise us to make the switch and Direct Telecom will take charge of your phone line so that you won’t have to deal with Telefonica again or receive any more bills from them. In fact, we will be able to provide you with everything you need as regards fixed telephony, ADSL and mobile services , with everything combined into a single bill to make it easier for you to keep track.

So, when exactly will you be able to say goodbye to Telefonica and switch over completely to Direct Telecom? That must be the obvious question on your mind and the answer is hopefully around September 2008! Our new clients can already check the appropriate box in the sign-up agreement if they want their phone line to be automatically transferred when the time comes. We know that many of you can’t wait, but, of course, this does not depend entirely on us.

As many of you already know, we have been fighting for a very long time to break Telefonica’s monopoly on fixed phone lines in Spain, in order to offer our clients and the Spanish public at large a competitive and viable alternative. The situation that has prevailed so far is totally unacceptable, especially in a modern European country and has proven to be highly detrimental to the consumer in more ways than one. At long last, things are about to change!

    Dear Mike,
I will not be able to believe that Telefonica has lost its monopoly until it happens. I have not had a telephone line since Telefonica disconnected me due to an error on their part, on Feb 2nd. I don’t need them now. I have already started telling people that they may be able to change to Direct Telecom in September. I do hope this comes to fruition. I like your company but I was forced to get my DSL from Telefonica as it seemed that I was always losing the connection. They employ idiots and liars as they blatantly told me a pack of lies and then told me not to call 1004 as it was nothing to do with them, I was to ring 1002, when I did they told me not to ring them but to ring 1004. I gave up and bought a mobile ( not Movistar ). Anyway I hope that all goes well for you. I believe that you will be inundated with applications.
    Best wishes, David.

This is good news indeed., Well done. However, it does not help me who has been told by Telefonica that I cannot have a fixed line where I live because it would need 4 new poles!
Will the new deal help me get a fixed line phone?

Would be very pleased to hear more about you doing fixed lines. We waited in for days for Telefonica to come & connect us up. As a new site the sockets were already on the wall - we’d bought a phone. All we needed was a few wires put together. No such luck. We left for UK after weeks of frustration and still have to face it again when we go back in mid-December. IF you got a hold of this in September that would be great. Please keep me informed.

At last - we didn’t have any problems with Telefonica for 4 years but then we moved and the nightmare began!

We’re still receiving line rental and ADSL connection bills for the old phone that was disconnected on 14/01/08 and it’s now 09/06/08. Our new line has worked for approx. 10 weeks total in the past 6 months and is disconnected again now. We’ve overpaid around 550 euros just to keep getting the line reconnected (we need it for business) but enough is enough and we’re not paying them another cent. We’re told we must pay another 222.09 euros to have the line connected again. What a joke Telefonica are!

Direct Telecom were recommended by a friend and I’ve no hesitation in changing. I’m sure you’ll be inundated with new customers.

YIPPE KI AYE!! IF THIS COMES TO FRUITION AND TELEFONICA LOSE THEIR CONTROL, THEN I AM SURE THAT YOU WILL INHERIT AT LEAST 60% OF THE TELEFONICA CUSTOMERS.
HOWEVER, YOU WILL NEED TO BE SMART, AS IT WILL TAKE NOT ONLY CHEAP RATE CALLS TO AQUIRE THESE CLIENTS!
I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR LANDLINE SERVICE COMING ON LINE!
    Anxiously Awaiting Client!!

That´s the best news I have heard all year. Telefonica are just a complete nightmare to deal with even the english speaking operators cannot solve your problems. Six weeks, five visits from three engineers and one phone connection completley destroyed and this is what they charge you 180 euro´s for. Please keep me informed of the progress of this deal as we will be sure to sign up.

Firstly let me not rant of the hours, days, weeks, then MONTHS of frustration my family went thru to get an adsl line from Telefonica. My wife and I took turns waiting on their confirmed date of install. I tookover because she couldn´t take being so badly mislead ( lied to). We then begged to be told an HONEST time for their tech to do the install. By the way, all the lines were already here. My neighbours have adsl. We just needed the router ( my business is building/installing computers/networks ). We were told they needed to do it. So again WHEN? Literally months later finally. Still plagued with sparodic service. And why when on well known sites, their censoring ( Cangaru net or whatever ) splashes all over the page? I do research and all the pages are at least ¨chid¨ safe in ratings. Yet this obtrusively infuriating what, service? that cant go away steps all over the page. Blocking KEY text.
In a word, 2 actually, Thanks MUCH!!!!!
Direct-Telecom, we need you! Welcome to Spain!!!!!!!!!
